Barbara J. Keefer
Barbara J. Keefer received her Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Marshall University, in Huntington, West Virginia in 1977 and her J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1980. She is admitted to practice in all West Virginia Courts and in both the Southern and Northern U. S. District Courts of West Virginia. Ms. Keefer has been engaged in the practice of law in West Virginia since 1980, bringing years of experience to her clients.
She began her legal career at Masters & Taylor, L.C., a plaintiff's firm located in Charleston, West Virginia. She has represented defendants, insurance companies and agents with several other defense firms in Charleston, West Virginia. She joined Kesner & Kesner, PLLC in August of 2019.
Previously she was employed as in-house for USF&G Insurance as the Managing Attorney of its Trial Division and also at Nationwide Insurance Company as a Claims Manager, Claims Legal Counsel and Managing Claims Counsel.
Ms. Keefer's practice areas include coverage; extra-contractual matters; unfair trade practice claims; agent errors and omissions; administrative law before the West Virginia Insurance Commission, as well as regular defense work in personal injury, construction, trucking cases, deliberate intent, products liability, and premises liability.
Ms. Keefer is Peer Review rated AV by Martindale Hubbell. She is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a trained mediator. Ms. Keefer was named a Super Lawyer in West Virginia for 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Insurance Coverage. She has served as an adjunct professor at Marshall University, College of Business located in Huntington, West Virginia where she taught classes in Insurance. Additionally, she is a requested speaker at insurance law seminars and a presenter in good faith claims handling.
